Clothes & Behaviour

While "you are what you wear" is not true for video conferencing it is worth considering how you look through the lens of a video conferencing camera. The video clips presented on this page give some advice on on-camera behaviour.

  • Choice of clothes. Think like a newsreader and choose simple unpatterned clothes avoiding high contrasting colours and patterns. This will help increase the quality of the picture and stop any interference patterns.
  • Don't move around too much. The more movement in a video conference the lower the overall quality is. Dont' wave your harnds in the air for example, or fiddle with items in your hands. In addition to video this can cause noises that are picked up by a microphone.
