What is it good for?

Good quality conferencing has a number of applications including:

  • Distance teaching of shortage subjects
  • Interaction with other countries as part of MFL teaching
  • Routine administration meetings
  • Saving time and travel costs
  • Encouraging planning and formality

However, video conferencing is less suitable for:

  • Communicating and developing new ideas
  • Negotiating with and influencing people
  • Confidential discussions
  • Meetings involving a lot a paper
  • Sharing experiences of physical objects

Ad-hoc meetings are practical where equipment has already been set-up  and tested, but setting up new equipment and connecting to the network for the first time should be planned in advance.
